While summer is in full swing and winter feels a long way off, your biomass heating plant is entering its ideal maintenance window. With operations reduced or temporarily paused, service work can be carried out without time pressure, while upgrades and improvements are often much easier to implement than in the middle of winter.
The work carried out during this period often determines how smoothly the next heating season begins.
1. Plan upgrades and major maintenance work
This is the ideal time for planned modifications and improvements. Whether it is the installation of an Electrostatic Filter, upgrades to existing components or larger overhaul projects, work can be planned and completed efficiently without affecting normal operation. It is also the right opportunity to prepare for upcoming regulatory requirements and implement necessary measures well in advance.
2. Check biomass storage conditions
The biomass quality affects far more than emissions alone. It also has a direct impact on collection efficiency, maintenance requirements and the overall service life of the plant.
For this reason, it is worth taking a closer look at the storage conditions. Issues identified at this stage are far less likely to lead to costly interruptions once demand increases again.
3. Inspect the Ash Discharge System
Ash Screws, Inclined Screw Conveyors, Rotary Valves and collection containers often do their job unnoticed in the background, until they suddenly stop.
Wear, deposits and developing blockages are much easier to identify and resolve during periods of low demand. Preventive inspections significantly reduce the risk of unexpected downtime during peak operation.
4. Review the previous season
The past few months often provide valuable insights for the next heating season. Frequent faults, shorter cleaning intervals, unusual operating conditions or recurring service calls are often early indicators of optimisation potential. Taking the time to analyse these experiences now helps ensure a more reliable and trouble-free restart when colder weather returns.
